Few people are more passionate about Taekwondo than Master Matt Ross he has competing and teaching the sport for over 25 years.
I got into Martial Arts because I was being bullied as a kid. One day I watched a Bruce Lee Movie, I was so impressed with how a little guy could take on the big guys and come out on top. At that point, I was determined to learn Kung Fu. I went to a few Kung Fu studios but was a little disappointed because it was nothing like what Bruce was doing in the movies.
One day I was in an old CKT Martial Art Supplies store in Downtown Toronto and I saw a poster about a Jeet Kune Do seminar being held by one of Bruce Lee’s students, Ted Wong. I grabbed the poster off the wall and threw it in my pocket. When I get home my family saw it and my stepfather – who didn’t have a lot in common with me – said “I’ll take you.” I feel so fortunate that I was actually able to train with Bruce Lee’s student and was even able to train a second time with him in Montreal.
After my family moved from Toronto to North York, I attended a seminar and saw some people wearing Tae Kwon Do uniforms. I was excited by those cool high-flying kicks and I immediately scoped out a Taekwondo studio close to my new home. I instantly fell in love with the sport. Taekwondo is my life! I consider myself very fortunate to have had great mentors and instructors who showed me how living a healthy life and staying mentally strong is the key to prosperity and happiness.
I’m thrilled to have opened “Tiger Kicks Martial Arts” in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
My mission is to create a world class Kickboxing and Martial Arts school and share what I’ve learned with my students and be a positive influence on their lives and the Taekwondo community”
