Your mood matters … understanding self-regulation through The Akira Concept

Wellness Intelligence is a term that you may not be familiar with, but David Newton and Lisa Borden are determined to make it the next health trend.  One of the topics they are passionate about is self-regulation and how it impacts our mood.

What is The Akira Concept?

The Akira Concept’s mission is to help everyone discover their Wellness Intelligence … all of our trainings, experiencesadvising, and workbooks have been created to support this journey. Wellness Intelligence is the ability and capacity to learn, understand, use, and manage your own wellness in a positive and common-sense way.

As long as wellness-based brands, programs, and services profit from confusion and fear, our collective health and well-being will continue to be at risk. The Akira Concept’s radically different and simplified approach to wellness is the antidote. Our Immersive Wellness Solutions are based on evidence-based concepts and experience-based wisdom … and they really work. They have been designed and developed for open-minded individuals, creatives, wellness professionals, and entrepreneurs who want to live and work efficiently and ethically, while having a regenerative influence, creating legacy.

We are self-declared Unconventional Idealists determined to make healthy futures possible for all. Joining the Wellness Intelligence Movement will gift you a best-case scenario for living life well. We believe that discovering your “Wellness Intelligence” is poised to become the next big wellness trend.

How does it help regulate your mood?

The Akira Concept doesn’t focus on any one thing at any time, as we understand that EVERYTHING is connected. We help people regulate their mood focusing on all five of our Wellness Ladders (https://theakiraconcept.com/wellness-ladders/ )with regard to “organic” breath, movement, fuel, rest, and connection (you can see this illustrated and explained here
https://theakiraconcept.com/wellness-intelligence/ ). When you understand “Body Networking” (https://theakiraconcept.com/foundation-body-networking/ ), you will be better able to “control” your mood.

How can people instantly improve their mood?

Dopamine is often called the “motivation molecule”, it is the main brain chemical messenger responsible for making us feel motivated and we can trigger its release simply by moving! Dopamine provides the drive and focus we all need in order to learn and be productive … it is mood-boosting, anxiety-reducing, increases our attention-span and pain tolerance, and can bring about short term euphoria.

Produce some feel-good drug … naturally! These are some of our favourite ways to stimulate dopamine release:

  1. Go for a brisk walk or Off-Road-Speed Play!
  2. Put on your favourite song and dance
  3. Stretch out your body
  4. Get outside and drink in the sun
  5. Do the 3D Walking Challenge!
  6. Eat something nourishing and delicious
  7. Hug your pet
  8. Do something meaningful for someone else
  9. Dry skin brush
  10. Resistance train your body (situp, pushup, squat, dip!)
  11. Get enough sleep
  12. Be creative … learn something new!
  13. Drink more tea
  14. UnMeditate
  15. Commit yourself to being Emotionally Fit

Remember, one of the most important traits of dopamine is its ability to kick start motivation and make us feel better! Dopamine release happens when we perform or experience any activity or emotion which is deemed pleasurable. So, live in the moment … and enjoy what you’ve chosen to do to nourish yourself!

What impact do you think nutrition has on our mood and are there specific foods your recommend or would avoid?

What’s on your plate REALLY matters. When you pay attention to how foods make you feel, you will be able to make better decisions for yourself. We believe it’s more about what you add to your diet than what you take away, but avoid ultra-processed white grains and flour, white sugar, white salt, and white dairy.
Eat according to the “Kind Food Plate” and you will nourish your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, environmental, and financial wellness … all eight dimensions of wellness … how could you NOT be in a good mood? Fill your Kind Food Plate with a variety of good food. If a food doesn’t fit into a one of our circles (see them here), it shouldn’t be on your plate!

Remember: when you eat well, you feel well.
